Frequently Asked Questions

Are you curious about how private virtual dietitian services can help with managing your period and hormone health?

Here are some of the most common questions about my services and resources!

What's the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are regulated health professionals, requiring accreditated undergraduate and post-graduate education, specific intensive practical training and certification via board examination to ensure they protect the safety of the public and use evidence-based practices. RDs are also required to uphold continuing education standards via Quality Assurance Programs - their College standards are high to keep the public safe! Nutritionists are not a regulated profession in Ontario, meaning their education can be variable and/or inadequate, placing the public at significant risk.

What are some common topics covered in personalized nutrition counseling sessions?

Common topics include period pain, irregular periods, and digestive health. I focus on menstrual health, PMOS (previously known as PCOS), endometriosis, and fertility to provide tailored nutrition advice for optimal well-being (without the diet mentality or focus on weight loss!).

How do you approach nutrition for menstrual health?

I take a unique approach to nutrition care, combining menstrual health education with holistic nourishment recommendations that offer a comprehensive look at how nutrition impacts menstrual health and period concerns. Get ready to learn about cycle tracking, ditching the diet, and collaborating with your health care team to address your needs and goals.

What kind of resources do you offer to support menstrual health and nutrition goals?

I offer customized private nutrition counseling, food and supplement recommendations, and I work collaboratively with your medical team to support your nutrition and health goals. Clients receive access to personalized resources as part of their care with me to enhance their well-being and achieve optimal period outcomes.

What's the difference between a consultation and an assessment?

Per the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ontario Medical Association (OMA), consultations and assessments have different processes that may affect how they are billed or structured.

A consultation is a general or medical-specific assessment based on the specialty knowledge of the practitioner (for example, a gastroenterologist or neurologist). A review of any patient or practitioner-provided data occurs in a shorter and less demanding appointment, and may offer suggestions based on the information provided. Regular monitoring or follow-up may not be included. This is what I do at Endometriosis360!

An assessment is a detailed full patient history (including history of the concern, family medical history, past medical and surgical history, social history and a functional inquiry into all body parts and systems) and examination to form a clinical opinion and personalized recommendations. Review and interpretation of results, coordinating follow-up care, monitoring symptoms and conditions and providing advice and information are part of this process. This is what I do at Brant Nutrition!

Can clients access private virtual nutrition support outside of Ontario, Canada?

Yes, I offer private virtual nutrition support in Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I am also registered to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador. This allows individuals in multiple regions to benefit from expertise in menstrual health, nutrition, and reproductive wellness.

My period health educational resources are available across Canada and other countries for purchase and download.

Private nutrition counseling services are eligible for health insurance coverage and qualify as a medical expense on income tax returns. Endometriosis360 consultations and group program participation are eligible for health insurance coverage in Ontario.

Who would not be a good fit for reproductive health nutrition care?

If you're in a life season that prevents making nutrition changes, don't feel ready to make any lifestyle modifications, or prefer an approach that is rooted in intentional weight loss, we might not be a good fit for each other. And my services don't provide a "quick fix"! You can keep me in mind when you feel ready and able to get started, or would like to explore nutrition care that doesn't focus on your weight.
